C-Chat :  A video chat system for the elderly

Project Description:

This project aims to design a video chat component for the Pandora framework.  The component  is based on the principles of  adaptive user interfaces and is meant for use by elderly people.  The focus of this research is to investigate the usefulness of  video chat applications for the elderly  and their caretakers.

Technologies:
  • VoIP ( Gnome Meeting )
  • Web-cameras ( Logitech Pro 4000 over USB )
  • The Pandora framework based on UIMS and the Mentor System..
  • JAVA.
Goals:
  • Finding the optimal parameters for the web-cam driver.
  • Researching on the current state of art in video chat applications.
  • Extending the Pandora system to support video chat applications.
  • Integrating  a video chat application within the Pandora framework.
  • Developing  the Community Nurse channel as a proof of concept for the proposed design.
